Thank you for your interest in developing in Sacramento County.
Are you in our jurisdiction?
Before getting started and continuing on this website, please make sure that your proposed development or project is within the Unincorporated Area of Sacramento County. Sacramento County Planning & Environmental Review only has jurisdiction over the unincorporated areas, which are all areas outside of cities. The City of Sacramento and County of Sacramento are separate and completely distinct public agencies.
To check the jurisdiction of a property, go to our General Map, type in your address or Assessor Parcel Number, and take a look at the “Jurisdiction” (not Postal City/Zip!) value on the left hand side of the screen under “Parcel Details” and “Property Information”.
This field will show what jurisdiction you will need to contact for planning assistance. If it says “Unincorporated Area of Sacramento County,” instructions on this website apply. If it says the name of any City, you will need to visit the websites of the listed city for their applicable land use regulations. For your convenience, the County maintains a list of City Planning Departments for reference.
