Zoning Code Updates

This page provides information on ongoing Zoning Code Updates and other efforts managed by the Zoning Administration Team of Planning & Environmental Review.

​Crowing Fowl Zoning Code Amendment

To address growing concerns related to public health, safety, and land use compatibility, the County is proposing amendments to Chapters 3 and 7 of the Zoning Code regarding the incidental keeping of animals, specifically roosters. These changes are being developed in coordination with updates to Sacramento County Code Title 8 by Animal Care Services, aimed at further deterring illegal activities ​​involving roosters.​

Housing and I​​​nfill Zoning Code Amendment

This effort proposes revisions to development standards for multifamily housing and non-residential development (including reductions in parking minimums), elimination of Use Permits for multifamily projects, inclusion of neighborhood scale multi-unit buildings in single family zoning districts, and other amendments consistent with the Board’s intent to streamline housing production and accelerate infill development.​

2023 Zoning Code Update

A "major maintenance" update to the Zoning Code containing 131 listed issues and fixes, which altogether, aim to streamline the Zoning Code, set up future improvements, remove or update several antiquated sections, assist a wide variety of businesses with beginning or continuing operations within the unincorporated County, help create a more user-friendly code, and help staff consistently interpret and apply Zoning Code provisions.
