On February 25, 2014, the Board of Supervisors repealed the existing Affordable Housing Ordinance (AHO) and adopted a new one that went into effect on March 27, 2014. It requires almost every new market rate, residential building permit to either pay a set fee, or comply using a few other options.
On June 9, 2015, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors approved the Affordable Housing Program Guidelines. These Guidelines are to aid applicants, landowners, developers, homebuyers and others in understanding and complying with the Affordable Housing Ordinance.
Affordable Housing Fee
The Affordability Fee required by the Ordinance, Section 22.35.050 of the Sacramento County Code, will be updated annually. The current fee is $3.66 per habitable square foot of each market rate unit. The fee as of March 28, 2024 will increase 2.45% to $3.75 per habitable square foot of each market rate unit.
